Who should consider COVID-19 testing?

What types of COVID-19 testing are there?

The Rahma Health team offers several types of COVID-19 testing, including:

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test

The PCR test, also called a molecular test, examines a sample of your mucus or saliva for genetic material from the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This test detects several viral genes, so it’s considered more accurate than other tests.

Antigen test

The antigen test analyzes your mucus or saliva for viral antigens –– a viral marker. If you have COVID-19, antibodies in the test bind to them, producing a positive result.

When will I get the results of my COVID-19 test?

How quickly you receive the result of your COVID-19 test will depend on which test you take. The antigen test provides results within 15-30 minutes, but the PCR test takes 2-3 days, depending on how busy the lab is.

If you have symptoms indicating you’re contagious, your Rahma Health provider asks you to quarantine at home until you get your results.

Is COVID-19 testing accurate?

COVID-19 testing has a proven track record, but no test is 100% accurate. The Rahma Health team might order PCR and antigen tests, depending on your symptoms and the initial test result.

What if my COVID-19 test is positive?

If your COVID-19 test comes back positive, stay home for at least five days, even if you don’t have symptoms. Tell your close contacts about your test result, and wear a mask if you have to go out. If you develop symptoms like shortness of breath or a high fever, visit your nearest emergency room immediately.
